It is often during your walks in the middle of nature or a natural area, far away from the roads, at the end of the path…that you will end up in front of a porch, a door from the 17th century, a bread oven, an old bridge, a school, a barn entrance…. or maybe in front of the house where the famous French writer Albert Camus was living during World War II.

The river and its numerous tributaries will never be far from you during your walks, to the delight of children and our fishermen friends. (watercourses classified as first category)
Originating from the Mézenc, the river runs though the department (around 70 kilometres) and flows into the river named “la Loire”.

Le Pic du Lizieux
Le Pic du Lizieux The Haut-Lignon has a crystalline surface that is covered with volcanic formations on its western part, this is the peak of Lizieux which is 12,7 million years old.

The Lizieux is the exit point of a viscous lava that has flowed and has created the Plateau.
At the top, you will enjoy a great view of the Mézenc and the Meygal.

In the middle of nature, during your walks, if you choose to follow the discovery circuit of prehistoric sites provided by the association “Environnement et Patrimoine du Mazet-St-Voy” (Environment and heritage in Mazet-St-Voy), your itinerary will lead you from a site to another one and from surprise to surprise !
The theory of a protohistoric occupation is provided by the existence of dolmens, menhirs (standing stones) and “pierres à cuvette” (large rocks that collect rainwater).

Protestant church in Mazet-Saint-Voy
Protestant church in Mazet-Saint-Voy Le premier temple était probablement situé dans l'angle sud-Ouest du pré qui fait actuellement face à la chapelle de Saint-Voy. Il est détruit en 1679.

Le nouveau temple est bâti en 1823. En granit, avec une couverture de phonolithe, il est le fruit des dons et du travail de ses fidèles.
Lors des alertes durant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, ses combles ont accueilli les réfugiés.
